Accounting provides valuable information for use in management of any type of organization. Accounting assists in investment decisions, managerial decisions, in governmental regulations, and in taxation. Purdue University Calumet offers an outstanding opportunity to study within this field.
The objective of the Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting is to provide candidates with a general education, accounting knowledge, interpersonal skills, communication skills, analytical skills, and critical thinking skills. All these skills are joined in conjunction with a well-designed business curriculum, as a foundation for accounting in career development.

The School of Management offers a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting. The course of study may be tailored for you if you are seeking to qualify for the CPA Examination or if you're interested in an entry level position as an accountant. As a graduate you will be prepared with detailed knowledge of accounting, as well as a broad based conceptual understanding of business operations.
Your career opportunities:
Career opportunities in Accounting are many and varied. You may find employment as an independent auditor in a CPA firm, which renders opinions on the financial statements of clients. Businesses, financial institutions, non-profit organizations, hospitals, and governmental units employ both financial and managerial accountants. Complex tax laws also enhance the demand for accountants.
Accounting careers have undergone dramatic changes since the advent of the computer. Gone is the tedium of number crunch 1 ng-repl aced by the ability to provide a wealth of useful information. Today's accountant needs judgment to discern what types of information to provide and the communication skills to present the information most effectively.
Our placement office:
Purdue Calumet has an active and successful Office of Career Development and Placement. Its staff assists students in planning their careers, obtaining part-time employment while in college, and in obtaining career employment upon graduation. More than 80 national, regional and local employers visit Purdue Calumet to recruit its graduates.

All accounting and management courses are taught by highly qualified and experienced faculty. More than 83 percent of our fulltime faculty have doctoral degrees from major American universities. The majority also have business experience.
Part-time faculty are drawn from the business community for their special professional expertise.
In addition, faculty members keep up-todate in their fields through research and professional involvement. They frequently present papers at regional and national conferences and have articles published in professional journals and other publications.

The six major courses include Intermediate Accounting I and 11, Tax Accounting, Managerial Accounting II Auditing and three additional Accounting courses approved by your academic advisor.

Admission Requirements:
You will be admitted directly into this program if you completed high school in the upper 1/2 of your graduating class, and completed five semesters of academic Mathematics, two semesters of lab science, six semesters of English, and two semesters of history or social science.
If you do not meet the above requirements, you may gain admission by successfully completing the university's specified preparatory programs. Please see your advisor regarding this issue.
