Undergraduate Programs

Bachelor of Science in Management
Accounting Major

Program Summary:

     Plan of Study

Accounting is the part of an organization's information system which provides financial data. The main purpose of supplying financial information is to help users make better decisions.

The major fields of accounting are financial and managerial. Financial accounting provides information to those outside the organization such as investors, creditors, financial institutions, and government regulators. Managerial accounting, on the other hand, directs information to the managers within the organization.

A program for you:

The School of Management offers an undergraduate program leading to a Bachelor of Science degree in Management with a major in Accounting. The course of study may be tailored for you if you are seeking to qualify for the CPA Examination or if you're interested in an entry level position as an accountant. As a graduate you will be prepared with a detailed knowledge of accounting, as well as a broad based conceptual understanding of business operations.

Your career oppoitunities:

Career opportunities in accounting are many and varied. You may find employment as an independent auditor in a CPA firm, which renders opinions on the financial statements of clients. Businesses, financial institutions, non-profit organizations, hospitals, and governmental units employ both financial and managerial accountants. Complex tax laws also enhance the demand for accountants.

Accounting careers have undergone dramatic changes since the advent of the computer. Gone is the tedium of number crunchingreplaced by the ability to provide a wealth of useful information. Today's accountant needs judgment to discern what types of information to provide and the communication skills to present the information most effectively.
